Overall, the state is due $6.2 billion in oil and gas taxes for the 12-month period that ended in November, according to the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts.

That’s a lot of money, and it all goes to the state’s Rainy Day Fund, a state emergency account that voters in recent elections have approved tapping a portion of for road and water projects.
